Crushed Stone Uses
Crushed stone is a building material that has been mechanically crushed and and decreased in size to the requirements of your project. It is very versatile, for use in a wide variety of commercial, residential and public projects. It can be used as an aggregate, with or without a binder, for ready-mix concrete, rip rap, road constructions, railroads, or as the base layer for a new building. Crushed stone is also often used for drainage - septic, road-side drains or retaining walls. Outside of construction, crushed stone can also be used as an agricultural lime for soil neutralization.
Types of Crushed Stone
The type of stone depends on the quarry that is is taken from, but the most common types are Limestone, dolomite and granite. There are three basic phases of producing crushed stone: primary crushing to break down to a workable size, recrushing to ensure the stones are the correct size for their application. Finally, we then screen the stone for further processing or finished products. All of our crushed and washed stone is certified for construction use. This includes: ¼” Washed Stone, ⅜ Washed Stone, ¾ Crushed Stone, 1 ½ Crushed Stone and 2 ½ Crushed Stone.
Gravel
Gravel, also called Bank Run Gravel, is dug from the ground at the sand and gravel processing site and split into three types: fine, medium and course. It is well suited for high traffic locations. Depending on the size, the gravel will be used for different uses such as driveway sub base, base for roads, under slabs or for trench or septic backfill.
